“Silence Kills! Hamdi Yousry Hashem Dies in Sisi’s Prisons Due to Deliberate Medical Neglect”

Hamdi Yousry Hashem, a 62-year-old detainee, passed away on the morning of April 20, 2025, at the medical facility of the 10th of Ramadan Prison after suffering from deliberate medical neglect.

Hashem, who suffered from lung fibrosis, hypertension, and diabetes, was denied adequate medical care despite his deteriorating health, leading to his death in custody.

Arrested on November 26, 2019, Hashem was repeatedly rotated among detention facilities and remained held in pretrial detention under Case No. 2215 of 2022 (Supreme State Security) until his death.

JHR condemned his death, calling it another crime in Egypt’s ongoing violations against political detainees. The foundation also demanded an immediate investigation, accountability for those responsible for deliberate medical negligence, and the release of all arbitrarily detained individuals.
